Because we assume that the agents know best, we oftentimes unknowingly pay hundreds to thousands of dollars extra in service provider fees. YOU legally have the choice to decide which escrow company, which title company, which termite inspection company, which inspectors, etc. to use and to make sure that they are the most cost-effective for you.
Some services providers are great at being "Donut Schmoozers", bringing donuts and gifts to brokerage offices to befriend them and earn their referral business. There's nothing wrong with that, but when the real estate agent refers you those service providers, it may be based upon the donuts and not based upon the best fees and services for your needs.
What I suggest is that you should question these services provider's fees before you sign a purchase contract or a mortgage good faith estimate. Make a call or two to a competing provider of each service to get a sanity check, and if the fees are off, stand up for yourself and insist on a different provider.

My first blog entry!
Wow! I'm so thrilled to be able to deliver this website to you all. It's been a very long effort, but I believe it's worth it now that it's fully functional - Sellers can really see and understand what we mean by our A La Carte services...and Buyers can conduct some really efficient searches with the search technology we've integrated. I've already spent hours searching on it because, besides the fact that I have to, I find myself perusing the photos that automatically pop up on the maps, which entice me to look and explore further - its such a great way to really get a feel for what's going on out there.
The most important thing that I want to get across to my clients and to the world is that PineappleHut is genuinely a grass roots effort to provide great value to our clients. We ARE NOT a discount brokerage- although we do provide savings to our clients when they participate in the process. We price our services based on a realistic evaluation of the time we typically spend and the expenses we incur to serve our clients in the most professional manner, without making them pay for services that they don't need.
The timing for PineappleHut couldn't be worse and couldn't be better. The market hasn't been at such a standstill in years with the subprime mortgage troubles and overall slowdown of activity. However, while these conditions have been stifling the real estate brokerage industry overall, PineappleHut's approach and business model have been attracting a lot of attention and proving to be 'worth a try' to clients who need to be creative in times like these- and as you can see from the testimonials- its definitely been worthwhile to them! It's also been giving our agents a strong competitive advantage. Nothing gives me greater pleasure in this business than knowing that as we thrive, our clients are saving (and/or keeping) more of their money.
